4 Installations necessary to keep your guests’ items safe during their stay

As a hotel manager, keeping your guests' valuables safe should be a top priority. Any random theft on your premises can portray a negative image to future guests. Theft can also deter your usual customers from coming back.

It can be tricky to properly secure a hotel premises (because many people come and go on a regular basis). However, you can work with a locksmith to install advanced security features that will minimise the risk of theft on your premises.

Here are four useful and effective installations to consider.

1. Install electronic locking systems

The use of traditional locks and keys in guest rooms has become out-dated. Traditional locks can be easily picked using basic tools. In addition, copies of keys can be made by other guests or rogue employees.

To address this security challenge, install electronic locks or keyless entry systems. These systems allow guests to use a card or special code to enter their rooms. With keyless entry, you can reprogram the locks after each guest checks out and another one checks in. Consult a commercial locksmith to make the shift from manual to electronic locking systems.

2. Install a combination safe in guest rooms

Installing a safe should now be standard procedure in your hotel. Most guests have valuables such as jewellery, cash and other expensive items that they need to keep in a safe place.

With a combination safe in each room, your guests can store these items and lock them with a unique code. Have a locksmith regularly inspect these safes for any tampering that may occur.

3. Install a door bolt in each room

In most cases, electronic locks only lock the deadbolt of guest room doors. For the added safety of your guests, add a latching bolt above the door (inside each room). The latch provides an added layer of security. It also allows guests to peak at who's knocking before they fully open their door.

4. Install cable locks for electronic devices

As more guests travel with electronic devices, you should take steps to help them secure these expensive items. Cable locks are useful for preventing the theft of laptop computers. They attach the device to a physical object (such as a nearby desk or bedpost).

With a cable lock, it's harder for intruders to quickly grab a device and run out of the room. Install cable locks in each room to help your guests keep their devices secure. For more information, contact your local locksmith services.
